THE KINGDOM OF GOD vs. THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN The emphasis of JESUS' teachings centers around the theme of the Kingdom of GOD and the Kingdom of Heaven. These expressions are found in sixty-one separate sayings in the Synoptic Gospels. Counting parallels to these passages, the expression occurs over eighty-five times. It also occurs twice in John (3:3, 5). It is found in such key places as the preaching of John the Baptist, "Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is near" ( Matt 3:2 ); JESUS'earliest announcement, "The time has come… The Kingdom of GOD is near. THE KINGDOM OF GOD, IS IN POWER, NOT WORDS 1 Corinthians 4:20 "I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:20)." So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. The Bible tells us that people who choose to be friends with the world are an “adulterous people” having “enmity against God” (James 4:4–5). The “wor...

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE UNTO A TREASURE HID IN A FIELD Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. This parable is intended to instruct believers to prefer the Kingdom of heaven to the whole world, and therefore to deny themselves and all the desires of the flesh, that nothing may prevent them from obtaining so valuable a possession. We are greatly in need of such a warning; for we are so captivated by the allurements of the wo...
